MCRA 2023 – Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Another successful and well-received MCRA Conference! For 2023, we got together in the spectacular location of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Though the wind picked up that evening, no one could resist hanging out on the terrace overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene for our Monday evening welcome reception.

Tuesday’s breakfast was followed by our keynote speaker, Eric Termuende, Speaker and Thought Leader on Work and Engagement. Great tips were shared on understanding and encouraging great performance from today’s employee. Whether you are hiring a new employee, managing existing employees, or simply hold the important position of an employee, Eric offered many useful takeaways.

Mallory Kirby from The Advisory Board joined us again this year to provide a general update on healthcare. She was followed (virtually) by Nancy Taylor, Co-Chair, Health and FDA Practice, Greenberg Traurig, LLP on health care legislative and regulatory update.

After lunch, was the return of a MCRA favorite: Dr. Stacy Borans of Advanced Medical Strategies. Dr. Borans shared current data on the big dollar risks, i.e., big dollar therapies!, that are here today and in the pipeline.

Tuesday wrapped up with a panel discussion including the following:

• Marc Marion, Senior Adviser with Octaviant Financial, Inc.
• Ross Hoffman, MD, Centene
• Marc Lambright, FSA, MAAA, Senior Principal with Oliver Wyman
• Francesca Cook, VP, Market Access, REGENIXBIO, Inc.

Their discussion provided actual experience with gene therapy authorization, treatment and reimbursement.

Tuesday’s group event started with a boat cruise around Lake Coeur d’Alene. Though we originally feared the weather would not cooperate, it ended up being a spectacular evening! Not only did we enjoy the ferry boat cruise, but we then disembarked at the Casco Bay Estate where we enjoyed drinks, food and a tour of the breathtaking gardens surrounding the estate.

After Wednesday morning’s breakfast, we heard from Jeremiah Reuter, VP, Provider Actuarial & Analytics, from Optum. Jeremiah shared leading trends in provider risk. Our last speaker was a special guest, Matthew Zachary. Matthew is a healthcare provocateur, divergent thinker, award-winning podcast influencer, and the people’s voice in healthcare. Hearing Matthew share his healthcare experiences and personal journey as a patient was eye-opening. It is always meaningful to get past the numbers and data, and allow the end user to present a different view to what is truly an important component to the work we do.
