Our 2008 conference kicked off Monday evening with a reception held at the beautiful Garden of the Gods resort.

“The venue was wonderful.”

Tuesday morning was an eye-opener with our keynote speaker Norm Bossio! Mr. Bossio motivated us through his storytelling of life as a school principal, experiences as a grandfather, and speaking engagements in outrageous places such as a prison. He involved the audience with team-building games. Take a shot at your puzzle-solving skills:

13 = B.D.
12 = S. of the Z.
50 = W. to L. Y. L.
26 = L. of the A.
8 = S. on a S.S.
“Norm Bossio – excellent speaker, great kickoff to the conference.”

Our greatest fear surrounding biotech drugs was confirmed with Dr. Terrance Killilea’s presentation: “Biotechnology Strategies for Fiscal Management.” Terrance Killilea, Pharm D., is President of Medical Cost Solutions.

“I enjoyed Dr. Killilea’s presentation.”

Patricia Ziomek, JD, CEO of Preferred Provider International, shared with us important information on medical travel and global healthcare alternatives, including the benefits and challenges. Locations to consider include Singapore, India, Thailand and Panama.

“P. Ziomek – exciting topic.”

Tuesday’s reception was enjoyed at the Garden of the Gods Visitors’ Center with drinks, appetizers, beautiful outdoor scenery, and our own private showing of the film, “How Did Those Red Rocks Get There?”

“Very good receptions each night.”

Wednesday was filled with three speakers starting with Robert Ziomek, Principal of Axia Strategies. He provided useful information on “How to Effectively Select and Manage Your Vendor Relationships.”

Best part of conference: “Overall diversity of presenters/quality as well.”

Next was Beverly Skram of The Assist Group. She shared with us many useful cost-containment strategies including disease management and claims resolution programs.

“All of the presenters were awesome.”

Our meeting was wrapped up by Dr. Scott Fisher of Colorado Springs Surgical Associates. Dr. Fisher is the Director of Bariatric Surgery at St. Francis Health Services. He shared criteria in choosing the right candidate for gastric bypass and lap band surgery, and discussed the many complications and risks that must be considered.

“Clinical speakers are good to hear.”

Thank you to our 2008 MCRA Board President, Chuck Newton!

“Great conference overall! Thank you to Chuck and the board.”

Congratulations to our 2009 MCRA Board Co-Presidents: Julaine Crossman and Robin Brown.
