Summary Of Our Agenda

Our 2019 MCRA conference was held at the historical Arizona Biltmore, an Arizona landmark since its opening in 1929. We started our conference with our Monday evening reception in the beautiful Aztec room.

Tuesday’s breakfast was followed by our keynote speaker, John Gorman, founder and former chairman of Gorman Health Group. Mr. Gorman spoke on “The Arms Race and Social Determinants of Health.” This can be a tough topic, and our speaker received reviews from both ends of the spectrum.

“Relevant information that provoked thoughts for 2020 planning. Very good presentation keeping audience engaged.”

“Although he had some political overtones, [he] presented very well with great information. Well done.”

“Mr. Gorman veered off the topic to a more political agenda. While he made good points about the impact of social needs on medical costs, he lost credibility by the end of his presentation.”

Natalie Landman with ASU shared “The Many Faces of Universal Coverage.”

“The speakers were great – keep up the good work!”

Colin Young with MIT NEWDIGs discussed “Gene & Cell Therapy Pipeline Projections to 2030.”

As a reinsurer, felt like this topic had the most direct impact to pricing and future loss ratios.”

Lunch was held at The Biltmore in the Aztec room.

Following lunch was our panel discussion: “Financing Options for Gene & Cell Therapies and Impact on Reinsurance.” This year’s panel included Jan Barlow with MIT NEWDIGs; Mari-Pat Pusey with Optum; Rob Bachler with Milliamn; and our moderator, Manny Lauria with KB Risk Solutions.

Great topic with good group of experts in that area.”

Tuesday wrapped up with Jeremiah Reuter, Optum Advisory Services. He spoke on “Emerging Trends in Provider Risk.”

“All of the speakers were great. I liked the way they all tied in together.”

To unwind and do a little networking, we had the entertaining folks from Wildly Different join us for an evening of fun and games. Through points earned, we donated much needed items to the charity A New Leaf, which provides a broad spectrum of support services to help individuals and families succeed.

“The Wildly Different Event was Wildly Great! Please keep that kind of stuff going!”

After Wednesday morning’s breakfast, we heard from Dave Terry, EO at Archway Health. His topic was “CMS Innovation Model Discussions:  Bundled Payment (BPCI-A) and Oncology Care (OCM).”

“All speakers were excellent.”

Our conference was closed by Ian Morrison, Author, Consultant and Futurist. He spoke on “The Future of the Healthcare Marketplace:  What’s next?”

“[He] was an excellent speaker, great topic and very engaging!!!”

“He kept my attention and delivered facts which he then used to back up his predictions for where the industry is headed.”
